Progressing Ballet Technique:Ballet based core exercises
It has long been recognised that our lifestyles no longer allow children to develop the core strength needed to excel in sports and dance, and many children suffer from low muscle tone which affects many aspects of their schooling. This is not the fault of the parents, but rather of the problem of no longer being able to allow children to ride their bicycles freely, or just run off to a friend’s house, as past generations did. As a result, Fiona has introduced a programme of ballet based core exercises using Pilates ball strength and training muscle memory, called Ballet Ball, based on programmes developed in Australia and the United States.
Performance Medals with the Theatre Dance Association
These are mini examinations, allowing younger dancers to gain experience on stage with less pressure and a beautiful Medal at the end of the day.
National Eisteddfod of South Africa
A less pressurised stepping stone to the more demanding repertoire based competitions, The NESA has a long tradition of excellence in the Arts. Look for them on Facebook.

Fiona also has vast experience in teaching boys and recommends that boys with serious ambition on the sports field do Ballet as a supplement to their sports training.
Fiona believes in providing Fun within a disciplined environment. Dancers have achieved excellent examination results, qualified for the East Rand Dance Encore Awards, the Gauteng Cecchetti awards (including several winners and runners up) and have performed well in Eisteddfods. Several Ilanga dancers are now following professional careers both locally and internationally.
As dancers progress they are also introduced to Jazz, Contemporary and national / folk dance.
