Ballet, Tap & Spanish Dance Classes from 4 Years to Adults


Situated in the family oriented suburb, Blairgowrie, The Dance Studio is a member of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance and offers classes in ISTD Ballet and Tap syllabi as well as Alianza Flamenca syllabus classes.

Syllabus classes :
- ISTD Ballet: 5 years upwards
- ISTD Tap: 7 years upwards
- Alianza Flamenca: 7 years upwards

Pre-Ballet classes are for 4 year olds and aim to give students the tools to be able to join the more formalised Pre Primary level at 5 years.

Adult Open Ballet & Flamenco Classes


There are also various levels of Adult Open Ballet classes on offer, for those who danced as a teen and young adult and for those who have kept it up - previous experience is a necessity.

Open flamenco classes are offered in addition to syllabus classes.

Students at the Dance Studio are prepared for exams, festivals and stage shows with the flamenco students regularly participating in various events. Students who reach the required levels can choose to train to do their teacher's exams.

Alexandra le Maitre, the owner of the Dance Studio, has her
- Associate Diploma qualification in the Cecchetti Ballet method
- Licentiate qualification in the Imperial Classical Ballet method
- Instructor de Baile from the Spanish Dance Society
- Segunda Diploma de Ensezana from Alianza Flamenca
She is Chairman of Alianza Flamenca and is also on the Board of Directors.

The Dance Studio is also home to Ashtanga Yoga JHB and Ntsoana Contemporary Dance Theatre.

My daughter has thrived under Alex's gentle way of teaching her, in both Ballet and Spanish dancing. We have been at The Dance Studio for 8 years and we couldn't be more grateful to have found such a professional, yet nurturing, dance studio. More expert performances you won't find. Alex's passion for what she does is palpable. I love how there's a place for every type of dancer, no matter your skillset, or your age. You will not find a better, gentler, more experienced or kinder dance teacher than Alex!

I started flamenco with Alex in 2003 and danced with her until recently, also attending adult ballet classes. She is a wonderfully kind and patient teacher. She has a profound and detailed understanding of the techniques required for dance, the various syllabi, and imparts her knowledge clearly. She is an incredible performer in her own right, as well as a superb choreographer. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

I started dancing Flamenco dancing again after many years. Alex's patience and gentle instruction has been perfect for me. Her passion for her form of dance is inspiring. No matter how tired I am, I look forward to my hour of flamenco every week.

If you are looking for a dancing studio that can teach your child the art of dance in an inspired, happy and healthy environment, The Dance Studio is the place to enrol your child. Alex is kind and nurturing and at the same time she gently instills the discipline that dancing requires and adds a whole lot of fun in to the mix. Alex teaches with encouragement and a joy for dancing that is infectious. At the same time, building confidence, poise and camaraderie amongst her students. I highly recommend Alex as a dance teacher that can help grow and develop your child personally and physically through the art of dance where everyone is open to express themselves freely. It is truly a safe and happy place to learn and grow.

My daughter spent many happy afternoons with Alex at the Dance Studio learning Ballet and Spanish. Not only doing syllabus work for exams but learning choreography for Festivals as well as Studio shows. Wonderful environment with the highest standards of teaching.

We absolutely love and appreciate our dance teacher, Alex. My eldest daughter has been dancing with her since she was three (she’s now 11). Alex is incredibly skilled, considerate, and patient as she teaches. She’s truly passionate about what she does, and it shows both in her demeanor and the girls performances.

Alex has gone out of her way to accommodate our family, even syncing my younger daughters tap schedule so I can easily bring both girls. That kind of thoughtfulness says a lot about her and the school.

The community she has created is beautiful flamenco, tap and ballet all together, the studio truly feels like home. Many students stay for years for good reason. We feel very lucky to be part of this dance family. Would highly recommend the dance studio

Alex is a wonderful, extremely patient and calm ballet teacher who has been incredible with our daughter. Our daughter has been dancing with Alex for over 5 years and Alex has nurtured a love of dancing, not just a focus on exams. Highly recommended

Teacher Alex from The Dance Studio is simply the best. She teaches with such kindness and patience. Always drawing the best out of her students without ever a cross word or bad day.
