For budding actors and actresses, drama classes are the ideal place to start. Drama classes encourage children to trust their abilities and ideas. Confidence gained from attending drama lessons apply to school, career, and life. Kids learn and grow as they assume different roles which are important in development of young minds. Children that are shy or withdrawn are able to use a platform where they are free and uninhibited.
Rewards for enrolling your child for drama classes
There are numerous rewards in enrolling your child for drama classes:
- Drama classes are fun and exciting. Humour and play are important to expressing themselves so kids are less likely to feel stressed out.
- Confidence is built as kids become more in tune with themselves and on stage.
- Learning to improvise helps children deal with difficult situations should they encounter them.
- Taking on different characters and roles develops empathy and compassion.
- Social skills are improved as children interact with many different people along the way.
- Learning and coping with disappointment is important in developing whole individuals.
- Dealing with stress for auditions also helps kids in other aspects of their lives, well into adulthood.
- Clarity of speech is enhanced.
Trained professional instructors offering drama classes are well-equipped to handle kids of all ages. Their aim is to train students as professional actors for stage (theatre or musical theatre) and camera based work (film and television shows). Acting classes may sometimes be combined with training in singing and other performing arts. Should your child be excelling, he/she can continue into adulthood which may lead to a professional career in acting and drama.
Drama examinations ensure that what the drama school is teaching meets with certain standards. There are various examinations including the Trinity College London exam, Eistedfodd and Royal school exams, just to name a few. For younger children, drama classes are usually meant to introduce kids to the idea of acting and performing on stage before they reach a level where they need to be examined on what they’ve learned. Most drama schools prepare children for these exams so that they are confident enough to perform.
Drama schools have the added hype and excitement of yearly productions. Kids are buzzing at this time as they are excited to show off their skills to their loved ones. Acting, improvisation, storytelling, costumes and music bring productions to life with the stage set to transport audiences into imaginary worlds.
There are so many different drama schools to choose from. Some are run solely as extra mural drama classes and some are full time, academic and drama schools. You will also find drama teaching companies at preschool level that will attend at your child’s school, offering their services as extra murals at the school. Find the right drama school by talking to parents in your area or ask a school if you could send your child for a trial class before enrolling.
Some drama schools offer drama parties for kids too. These are highly energetic, fun themed parties for kids to enjoy. Click here for more information about drama or theatre themed parties.
