Independent Girls School from 3 Months to Matric
St Andrew’s is an independent girls school in South Africa, dedicated to the development of girls into grounded, accomplished and confident young women who leave the school well and truly ‘Skilled for Life’ and ready to lead. Situated in Senderwood, Bedfordview, we offer a challenging yet imaginative education that extends well beyond the classroom.
The mission of St Andrew’s School for Girls is to provide relevant education that empowers students to be authentic, independent thinkers, who care for themselves and the common good. Our students are equipped to assume a meaningful role in local and global communities while remaining principled and values-driven.
St Andrew’s School for Girls is a Christian school. In appreciation of our social and cultural diversity as a South African educational institution, we welcome and respect staff and students who are believers of different faiths and denominations.
Preschool (Co-Ed) - 3 months-5 yrs old
Learning through play is core to our teaching philosophy at St Andrew’s co-educational Preschool. By providing a happy and caring environment for children between the ages of three months and five years of age, we instil a lifelong love for learning. Our classrooms and gardens have been designed to encourage inquisitive minds, a perfect setting for an enquiry-based learning programme. We give structure and routine, providing the foundation for children to explore and discover themselves.
Junior School - Grade 0-7
Our belief in whole-girl development offers a balanced approach to academic and leadership development, personal growth, sport and cultural opportunities, and connections to both local and global communities. For us, it is essential that our girls engage with their learning, embrace their opportunities, and develop their self-esteem. This, in turn, will empower them with the right set of values, knowledge and skills that will ultimately set them apart in a world where proficiency and humanity matter.
Our highly skilled teachers and parents work together to maximize the formative years of learning. This lays a solid foundation where life-long learning becomes the passport to global citizenship for our students.
Senior School - Grade 8-12 (IEB)
Our Senior School offers opportunities for students in a wide variety of areas, thereby creating niches for all in which to explore their interests, grow their talents and enjoy personal and team success.
Our values and ethos guide our students towards becoming empowered young women who own their space with confidence and grace – in all career paths and wherever life may take them.
We offer a rigorous academic programme from Grade 8 to Grade 12, following the IEB National Senior Certificate in which our students have succeeded in both the local and international academic arenas. Further Studies Certificates in English and Mathematics are offered as an extension to the curriculum, and these are internationally recognised.
Equally, we offer a wide variety of sporting, cultural, service, and club opportunities in which students can learn and thrive beyond the classroom setting.
uBambiswano
uBambiswano was founded in 1990 when Frank Simmonds – then Headmaster of St Andrew’s School for Girls – expressed a vision to share the resources and facilities enjoyed by the girls at St Andrew’s with the community of Daveyton. This community engagement programme has grown by leaps and bounds since then – we now serve 120 Grade 5 to 9 underprivileged students from the communities of Daveyton and Etwatwa.
Administratively, uBambiswano is run as one of the four St Andrew’s schools, which means that we have access to world-class facilities and benefit from the teaching staff’s expertise and advice. We also rely heavily on donations and contributions by the broader St Andrew’s community to sponsor and subsidise the talented students whom we reach through our programme.
Boarding - Grade 8-12
Our top-class boarding facility provides a warm, comfortable environment for full-term, weekly and occasional boarders in Grades 8 to 12.
This modern, spacious home away from home, nurtures independence and self-confidence, while girls learn the importance of respect in a communal, family-orientated living environment. Boarding school life is carefully overseen by a housemistress, matron and four members of the academic staff.
