Performing and creative arts high school

Classified as a School of Specialisation in Performing and Creative Arts, the NSA has an indisputable record of academic excellence and can boldly stand by its claim of “Realising Dreams through Excellence in Arts and Academics.”

The NSA alumni pursue diverse fields from arts to actuarial science and astrophysics. The class of 2020 boasted two learners who delivered a full-house of distinctions. The Dux of the school, Ayanda Bixa, was the Top Performing Learner in the Schools of Specialisation and in the JHB South District and is currently studying actuarial science at WITS.

Despite the backdrop of a disrupted 2020 academic year, the NSA matric learners achieved an 85% Bachelor Pass Rate. The Grade 8 to 11’s earned a ‘C’ average with an 84% Bachelor pass rate in Grades 10 to 11. It is true to say that at the NSA, academics and the arts share the spotlight.

The National School of the Arts (NSA) is a public-funded (Government) school situated in Braamfontein. There is an on-site hostel with single rooms to cater for all out-of-town learners with the option of either weekly or termly boarding. Click here to donate to our school.

Artists have the power to reflect on our reality, to “hold the mirror up to nature.” They have the curiosity and vision to imagine and re-imagine, and the empathy and sensitivity to archive our history. It is undeniable that society needs artists and creative thinkers. During these uncertain and changing times, we need the voice of the artist even more. We encourage parents of talented and creative learners to consider the National School of the Arts for your child’s high school needs. The NSA – as it is fondly known - is ready to open its doors to the new intake of creative learners as we prepare for 2022.
