STEM, coding & robotics workshops for kids

Code 4 Kidz teaches STEM principles to learners who are destined to be the future Makers. We specialise in working with children aged between 7 – 15 years, allowing these young makers to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to enter the 4IR .

Coding classes

Workshop 1: Introduction to Coding –1 hour (Cost –R100)
This workshop will introduce the child to core concepts in coding and programming languages and logic behind coding. The child will be introduced to a graphical user interface which is a fun way to learn and interact with coding. At the end of the session children will get to play with the interface and do some basic coding. If the child has access to a laptop, s/he is welcome to bring it along but it must have Windows 8 or later and ideally a portable mouse.

Progression: On completing this workshop, children who show an interest in coding and want to dive deeper can proceed to the more advanced coding sessions which will teach the child how to build their own game (approximately 12 hours–broken up into one hour sessions weekly -R400 a month, 4 half days –R350)*.

Workshop 2: Introduction to Robotics -1 hour (Cost –R100)
In this workshop the child learns what robotics consists of, types and uses of robots as well as the basics of building and coding your own homemade robot. Children will interact with a robot built at home. Progression:On completing this workshop, children who show an interest in robotics can proceed to the more advanced sessions that will teach the child how to build and code their own robot using textual interfaces. Equipment will be provided but can be purchased for the child should s/he wish to work from home (approximately 18 hours -broken up into one hour sessions weekly -R400 a month, 6 half days)*Workshop 3: Introduction to 3D Printing -1 hour (Cost –R100)Description:The basics of 3D printing, core concepts, additive versus subtractive printing as well as live demonstrations of using 3D printing software and a 3D printer.

Progression:On completing this workshop, children who show an interest in 3D printing can proceed to the more advanced sessions which will teach the child how to design and print an object using a 3D printer (approximately 9 hours -broken up into one hour sessions weekly -R400 a month, 9 half days)**time frames for advanced workshops are approximate and will depend on the computer literacy of the child. In order to progress to an advanced series of workshop, the child must have a basic understanding of using MS Office products –Word, Excel and Powerpoint. As we offer only individual input for advanced workshops, the pace is set by the child.

Online coding workshops

We offer online workshops - we require a minimum amount of 4 people per workshop usually but special arrangements can be made for less than 4 or for bigger groups.

Items purchased online can be delivered nationwide in South Africa.

Kids thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. Very informative and they were taken through the course slowly and patiently.
Highly recommended.
