Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens


Against the backdrop of the magnificent Witpoortjie waterfall, this Garden covers almost 300 hectares and consists of both landscaped and natural veld areas. The natural vegetation of the area is known as the 'Rocky Highveld Grassland' and consists of a mosaic of grassland and savanna, with dense bush in kloofs and along streams. The variety of habitats accommodates over 600 naturally occurring plant species. A breeding pair of majestic Verreaux's Eagles nest on the cliffs alongside the waterfall. The Garden is home to an abundance of wildlife. Over 220 birds species recorded on site. There are also a number of reptile and small mammals, including small antelope and jackal, which occur naturally in the Nature Reserve.

South African music icons Mango Groove return to the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden this Heritage Day, Thursday, 24 September 2026, as the headline act for the Sunset Music Series, promising an unforgettable afternoon celebrating South Africa's rich musical heritage.

Following the overwhelming success of their sold-out 40th anniversary celebrations in 2025, Mango Groove returns to one of Johannesburg's most picturesque outdoor venues to bring audiences another spectacular live experience. Renowned for their infectious blend of Afropop, marabi, kwela, and big band sounds, the legendary group continues to unite generations of fans through timeless music that has become part of South Africa's cultural fabric.

- No Own Drinks Allowed. Bars will be provided.
- Your Own Food and Picnic Baskets or Bags are allowed.
- No Cooler boxes or Glass are allowed.
- Camp chairs and Picnic Blankets are welcome.
- Small umbrellas are allowed but will need to be positioned at the back of the venue.
