BMX Racing for the whole family
We'd love to see all regular racers, as well as any new riders at all the race meetings.
BMX racing is a great family sport, open to all ages, boys and girls. Racing around a track with jumps and corners in the shortest time possible, you can race up to 7 other riders in one race. There are currently close to 200 licensed BMX racers in South Africa. Clubs have riders ranging in age from 4 years to over 50 years.
Although BMX SA is affiliated to various Cycling organisations, each race event is run by volunteers.
If you are willing to assist at any level, please get in touch with us. Relevant training will be provided.
What gear do I need?
To start with all you need is a bicycle and the correct gear. For now, if you don't have access to a BMX bicycle, ask your chosen club if they have one to loan you, or any bike will do while you get started.
Most importantly you will need the right protective gear.
- A FULL face helmet (the kind you see on Moto-X)
- Long sleeves and or elbow guards.
- Gloves
- Long pants, with or without knee pads.
- Tekkies, preferably not with laces as these can get caught in the gears, velcro ones will do.
- Patience, and a good attitude!
