Please Note:
The Planetarium is currently closed for renovations, and the flagship multidisciplinary Digital Dome Centenary project (wits-astro.org/digital-dome) will commence. Part of this project will involve disassembling and storing the mechanical star projector until it finds a permanent home. Renovations will last until November/ December 2024

School shows


Please note that the University Occupational Health and Safety has not granted the Planetarium permission to open for schools / group visits until further notice.

In the Planetarium... the lights dim slowly, as the stars appear like magic above you. You are about to go on a trip of exploration, to the planets, stars and galaxies of our Universe.
The Planetarium offers educational shows in an exciting setting. Each show lasts approximately one hour. Experienced staff are on hand to answer questions about astronomy.

Shows are about one hour long, and run Tuesday through Friday by appointment (you need to book).

Shows offered for school kids:
- Grades R-3: Space travel
- Grades 4-6: The secret of the cardboard rocket
- Grades 7-12: The solar system

Public shows


- Tickets will only be available through Webtickets here;
- Only 50 tickets will be made available per show;
- Only 5 tickets can be booked per person;
- Minors are to be accompanied by an adult;
- Tickets sales close 24 hours before start of show.
