Cambridge curriculum aligned, individualised education solution for secondary school learners

The Collective Genius Centre provides specialised tuition and support to high school learners, who may not thrive in main stream schools. We follow a Cambridge aligned curriculum that is not only flexible in terms of assessment and examinations, but also allows academically adept learners to move through their coursework at a pace that enables them to focus on individual prospects without sacrificing valuable academic engagement. Tutors and learners can pace learning more to the learner's own abilities and needs. It also provides learners with an international school leaver's qualification at the end of their high school career.

The course can be covered as follows:

Junior Level 1 to Junior Level 3 - Equivalent to Grade 7 to Grade 9

Core academic subjects include:
  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Combined Science
  • Second language: French, Afrikaans or Zulu
  • Social Science

  • Each level is done over the course of a year. Internal examinations are written
at the centre towards the end of November each year.

IGCSE - Equivalent to Grade 10 and Grade 11

Seven academic subjects need to be taken:
    Three compulsory

  • A two-year period is allowed for this level, but depending on progress, a learner may be allowed to write the final exam for the level after one year. External examinations are written yearly in May/June and October/November at a Cambridge examination centre.

AS Level - Equivalent to Grade 12

Five academic subjects need to be taken:
    - Only English first language is compulsory
    - Mathematics may be dropped if an average mark of 60% was achieved for the subject at IGCSE level
    - The second language may be dropped if an average mark of 60% was achieved for the subject at IGCSE level
    - Depending on whether a learner needs to continue with Mathematics and/or the second language, an additional two to four subjects from the following subjects need to be taken:
  • Business Science
  • Economics

    Learning environment

The centre is located in Rosebank. We are on the ground floor of the Grosvenor Corner building, on the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and 6th Street. In our dynamic, hyper-visual environment, learners have access to all the resources they may need to reach their potential. The centre offers small classes (10 learners or less) and lessons are provided according to a timetable. One-on-one teaching methods and daily revision and guidance are provided by teachers and tutors qualified in each of their respective fields and with a passion for creating a dynamic learning environment. Weekly reports are provided to the parents and guardians of each learner to keep them abreast of learner progress and any areas of concern.

    Additional support

We value the mental well being of our learners. All our teachers and tutors have completed accredited courses in Personal and Group Counselling Skills and in Trauma Counselling and Debriefing Skills. Academic support packages, to provide learners who may struggle or need to be accelerated in a specific subject, with extra lessons after hours, are also provided at the centre.
