Scouts South Africa is the biggest youth organisation in the country with over 190 000 children and adult members nationwide. At 1st Rosebank, we are open for all children (7-10), teens (11-17), and adults who want to embrace their adventurous spirit, enjoy challenging activities and make a positive impact on their communities. Even though each section commences at a particular age, children can join at any age within that range – we welcome everyone!
Scouting changes lives and helps children and young adults to reach their full potential. Leadership abilities, teamwork, self-motivation, commitment, perseverance, environmental and cultural awareness and strong values are just a few of the life skills our members acquire while they are having fun and ‘learning by doing’. Positive peer pressure and outdoor activities all contribute to individuals growing up with the belief that they can and are changing the world in order to leave it a better place than they found it.
Cubs is for boys and girls aged 7 to 11 – although many are ready to go ‘up’ to Scouts by 10 and a half. At Cubs, children follow the Jungle Book-themed Cub Trail where they learn new skills, play games, complete creative crafts, enjoy fun camps and community projects. Along their journey they make new friends and acquire a number of badges.
Scouts is for boys and girls aged 11 to 18. At Scouts, children follow the Scouts Journey which builds on the skills they have learned at Cubs (although Scouts are always happy to teach their skills to newcomers who may not have been Cubs). There are also opportunities to earn interest badges, which further expand their skills and contributions to the world around them.
