Co-educational remedial school
Bellavista School (est, 1967) is a small remedial school, centrally situated in Johannesburg.
The school celebrates a legacy of excellent delivery over the decades. Past learners of the school continue to call in and drop word of their progress and success later in life. Bellavista is a member of The Independent School Association of Southern Africa, The British Dyslexia Association, The International Dyslexia Association and SAALED (South African Association for Learners with Educational Differences). The well-established assessment centre is registered with the Board of Health Funders and has a practice number as a child development clinic. Bellavista School is a founder of ISPIE (the Institute of Specialist Practitioners in Inclusive Education) and partners with the Beit Issie Shapiro Centre in the use of Issie Senses and its application to a multisensory therapeutic sensory environment.
Bellavista was founded with the purpose of delivering the curriculum to learners with barriers to learning that prohibits them from participating in mainstream education systems. It is a co-educational school from Grade R to Grade 7 (ages 5 to 14) that endeavours to offer:
- intervention to remediate difficulties;
- excellence in education;
- an inclusive, multi-cultural environment that prepares children for the long-term world of work and a meaningful place in society.
Apart from a genuine, deep sense of care for each and every individual under its wing, Bellavista School, that being its Board of Governors, staff and parents, is committed to pursue research based, cutting edge intervention strategies that will offer its learners the best possible chance of reaching their full potential.
The school is relevant not only to remedial education but to best practice in education.
Bellavista S.E.E.K.
is a registered child development clinic where a number of expert multidisciplinary teams, under the guidance of a lead psychologist, conduct in-depth cognitive and educational assessments for children age 3 – 18, both nationally and internationally. These global assessments provide the necessary information needed to support children either in the current school environment and those who will come into Bellavista School or attend any other support environment.
Bellavista S.H.A.R.E.
With the Bellavista S.H.A.R.E. initiative, Bellavista School harnesses the collective capacity we hold within our own staff, and of those thought leaders in the industry, to improve the quality of educational delivery in Southern Africa.
Bellavista S.H.A.R.E. Online seeks to extend the work of Bellavista S.H.A.R.E. by making continuous professional development opportunities available to practitioners working throughout Southern Africa and indeed the rest of the world.
