More than a school. A place to belong, explore, and grow.

At the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ), students are known, challenged, and encouraged to discover what they are capable of.

With more than 70 nationalities represented across our community, AISJ offers an international learning experience from Pre-K through Grade 12, bringing together families from South Africa and around the world.

Campuses in Johannesburg & Pretoria

AISJ is one school, brought to life across two distinct campuses.

The Johannesburg Campus serves students from Pre-K3 (000) through Grade 12, while the Pretoria Campus serves students from Pre-K3 (000) through Grade 8. Both offer welcoming international communities, small class sizes, a shared approach to learning, and opportunities for students to learn, connect, and grow.

Two campuses. One community. One AISJ.

Learning at AISJ

Learning at AISJ is designed to grow with each student.

Through concept-driven, inquiry-based learning, students are encouraged to ask questions, think deeply, solve problems, collaborate, and apply their learning in new ways.

Beyond the classroom, opportunities in athletics, the arts, service, leadership, international competitions, travel, and co-curricular activities give students the chance to discover new interests and pursue what matters to them.

Inclusion & Student Support

Students learn in different ways, and neurodiversity enriches our community.

Our Student Support Services (S3) provide support based on individual student needs, from targeted interventions and accommodations to highly personalized pathways and modified curriculum.

The goal is simple: to help every student access learning, experience appropriate challenge, and build on their individual strengths.

Boarding

Students in Grades 8-12 can make AISJ their home through our Boarding Program on the Johannesburg Campus.

With private ensuite rooms, caring residential staff, structured study support, and full access to campus life, boarding offers students a supportive environment in which to grow in confidence, independence, and responsibility.

High School Pathways

There is no single path through High School at AISJ.

Students can pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), an AISJ High School Diploma with individual IB courses, selected Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and opportunities through Global Online Academy (GOA).

With guidance from educators and counselors, students build a pathway around their strengths, interests, abilities, and plans for what comes next.

Who Will They Become?

That is a question with many possible answers.

99% of AISJ graduates continue on to institutions of higher learning, with graduates pursuing opportunities at universities and institutions across South Africa and around the world.

But preparing students for what comes next is about more than where they go.

It is about what they discover along the way: the interests they pursue, the challenges they take on, the people they learn alongside, and the confidence to choose a path of their own.

Who will they become? Their journey starts here.
