French lessons, cultural events, excursions, shows
The Alliance Française of Johannesburg is a non-profit organisation promoting the French language and culture around the world. We have several course offerings for children to learn the French language in an entertaining way.
Courses are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), which structures the learning process according to 6 levels of language skills. Our complete learning packages include group classes with our dedicated teachers, an annual registration for Dibuka (a French-language media centre) and a textbook/workbook.
French for toddlers (Camembear) - Meet the fun-loving and mischievous teddy bear who inspires and motivates young children, encouraging them to speak with confidence in a foreign language! Learning languages is much easier if the child identifies with the subject matter, which is where Camembear comes in! This gorgeous puppet makes children feel like they're really communicating with a French speaker, encouraging them to interact and practice the words and phrases they are learning. It is an 8-hour course for toddlers offered on Fridays from 3pm-4pm or 4pm-5pm.
The French for kids (ZigZag) and French for teenagers (Ado) courses use a dynamic method that focuses on oral communication, games and songs. ZigZag is a 16-hour course for kids offered on Fridays from 15:00-17:00. Ado is a 16-hour course for teenagers offered on Saturdays from 8am-10am, 9:30am-11:30am and 10am-12am.
