The power of giving on Mandela Day: 7 reputable Charity Organisations

reutable charity organisations

Its in our innate nature to give, but do we know which charity organisations we can give to?

“If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way.” Buddha

South Africa may have earned itself some international respect and admiration recently, but it has also been known for many more years because of one icon: Nelson Mandela.  To honour him on Mandela Day, each year, big corporate companies and little individuals from all walks of life come together to make a positive difference to their communities.

There is no shortage of non-profit charity organisations that offer shelter, care, upliftment and much needed relief to disadvantaged people (and animals) in our country. Finding where to donate or volunteer services can be overwhelming with so many options to choose from.

Of some concern is whether our donations are truly beneficial and if the organisations are reputable. These are some of the organisations we’ve listed on our website that have events planned for Mandela Day. Remember that consistent support is always welcomed as most NPO’s rely on donations to survive.

  1. The Johannesburg Children’s Home (NPO 001-034)

Founded in 1892, the Johannesburg Children’s Home is the oldest charity organisation in the city. The home provides a safe refuge for up to 64 children who have been found in need of care by the Children’s Court. Every child that enters their doors has suffered trauma because of the abuse they have experienced. Their mission is to heal the harm and put the pieces back together.

Celebrate Mandela Day with The Johannesburg Children’s Home for a fun filled day of painting and/ or sorting through laundry and donations. Additionally, they will be having an art exhibition of their children’s art on the day, which will be for sale! If you are unable to join them on the day, you can still visit throughout the month of July! Donations are always welcome.
