No South African can resist the smell of Boerewors fresh off the braai! Add Mielie Pap and you’re having a feast!
Here’s a 5min Pap recipe (adapted from www.braai.co.za) that’s a definite game changer, especially for those who dread the kitchen. The results are impressive and can fool even the fussiest chef, and a real tummy pleaser. Its a win-win for all!

5 min Microwave Pap Recipe
Step 1: Mix the ingredients below in a microwavable dish, that has a lid.
- 1 cup mielie meal
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups warm water
Now microwave on high for 5 min.
Step 2: Remove from the microwave and mix really well, using a fork to fluff it up. Add:
- 3 tbsp cubed butter
- 1 tsp crushed green chilli (optional, but yum!)
- 1/2 tin of creamstyle sweetcorn.
Mix well. Heat again in microwave for 3-4 minutes, then remove and fluff up again!
Wala! You’re done! No mess, no fuss – and no burnt pots!
Cooking TIP
If you prefer a more set pap, reheat for 2-3 minutes.
Serving Suggestions
Best served with Tomato Chutney, and of course a boerewors!
Or top with cheese and you’ve made a hit!
Some Inspiration for Heritage Day
Share the love! And the Pap! Boerie Rolls are the easiest to prepare. Gather your friends and family to initiate a Boerie Drive, and hand out to the less fortunate. Of course, you have to add some pap and chakalaka!
