“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”,  Nelson Mandela.

Despite 25 years of democracy, South Africa is still at a crossroads in terms of how we educate our children.  HyProp, in collaboration with Rhodes Quality endeavours to provide education to poorer townships. This 4th year is no exception, and in true tribute to Mandela, they present to you the Mandela Day Food Can Mosaic –  a project aimed to help fund the LEAP schools ( a network of high schools in poor communities).

Mandela Day Food Can Mosaic: Sponsors are invited to help construct one of the largest food can mosaics ever constructed in South Africa. The mosaic, in the shape of the Nelson Mandela Day logo will be constructed using approximately 20 000 food cans donated by Rhodes Quality.

When: 18 July 2019

Where: Clearwater Mall Piazza

Other activities: LEAP Diepsloot school will perform a special concert of live music and dancing in honour of Nelson Mandela, and share more about the social development projects LEAP learners and teachers are engaged in.

After Mandela Day:  all the food cans used in building the mosaic will be donated to various social development projects where LEAP Schools are located.

LEAP welcomes your involvement as a company more broadly in LEAP’s activities. They will be happy to host your team on a visit to one of their schools.

More about LEAP Science & Maths Schools:
LEAP Science and Maths Schools is a network of six high schools located in some of South Africa’s poorest townships. The vision of LEAP is to positively transform these communities through the meaningful education of children who live there.
These low-fee schools are located in the Western Cape (Langa and Philippi) Gauteng (Linbro near Alexandria, Diepsloot, Garankuwa) and Limpopo (Jane Furse).
LEAP learners consistently outperform both South Africa’s National and Provincial matric pass rates. Over the past five years, LEAP learners have achieved an average pass rate of 94% which far exceeds the national average of 74% over that same period.
LEAP also acts as an enabling hub for a number of community development programmes. Each school adopts a number of social development projects in their community. It is a requirement that learners and teachers actively participate in supporting these projects in line with our vision to encourage all our children to be active agents of social change.

We invite your organisation to join us on this special day as we work together to write a new story for education in South Africa.
