We are visiting Jozi for three months working as volunteers at “Children of Fire”, teaching pupils at “The Johannesburg School for Blind”. Our weekends are free and we needed an affordable way to get around and learn more about Johannesburg.
When we heard about new Hop-On, Hop-Off City Sightseeing open-top red bus tour we knew we had to try it.
There are 12 stops you can choose from where you can hop on and off every 40 minutes. You pay R150 and can spend the whole day travelling through the city. The stops are: 1. Gauteng Station @ Park, 2. Gandhi Square, 3. Carlton Centre, 4. Santarama Miniland, 5. James Hall Transport Museum, 6. Gold Reef City Tour Office, 7. Apartheid Museum, 8. Mini District Walk, 9. Newtown, 10. Origins Centre at Wits, 11. Braamfontein, 12. Constitution Hill
Here we go, starting at Stop 2, Gandhi Square.
You can listen to interesting information about Jozi while passing the various locations. You are given bright red earphones to match the bus, and for the moment all the commentaries are in English
The tour stops briefly in the middle of the at stop 6 Gold Reef City for a 1 minute break . We decided to walk across to the Apartheid Museum for three hours. Afterwards we just hopped on the bus again to continue our journey in the comfortable, cool bus where we sat upstairs with only the huge window between us and the city.
“Goodbye” at stop 12 “Constitution Hill”
All in all we spent a very nice and interesting day exploring Johannesburg! The crew was very helpful and polite. We only have one criticism. One of the busses was at least 5 minutes early. Luckily we were also early. It could have been very frustrating if we’d been on time.
A great little goodbye gift was a 10% discount on the next tour if you keep your ticket.
We loved it and will definitely be back for more.
