VulPro – The Vulture Conservation Programme Hartbeespoort

VulPro offers a unique and personal view into the trials and tribulations of Africa’s vultures. If you are an animal lover and want to learn more about our vultures, then VulPro is the place for you.
VulPro is nestled in a beautiful valley below the Magaliesberg mountains, Hartbeespoort area, just 1 hour from Johannesburg and Pretoria. We offer our visitors the chance to learn all about vultures, to view and photograph them at our Vulture Restaurant and Hide, to see our non-releasable breeding birds and learn all about the challenges that these majestic birds face and why they are now critically endangered. We also rescue and rehabilitate all sorts of raptors, visitors can view Condors, Bateleurs, Fish Eagles and Owls.
Visitors may use the education centre and we also have a beautiful lapa where visitors may choose to relax and have a picnic.

The Griffons - Kids club

VulPro offers membership to “The Griffons” – VulPro’s Kid’s Club, where children are allowed to enjoy the kind of activities and freedom that their parents did growing up. They learn all about our vultures and how we may conserve them, all of this while they relax and have fun too.

Vulture rehabilitation centre

VulPro is home to rehabilitated, non-releasable vultures that are used in a captive breeding programme. The vultures that are captive bred are tagged and released when they are old enough, in this way VulPro helps to supplement wild populations and strives to save the endangered species. Due to the fact that VulPro houses breeding birds who can’t be stressed, bookings are essential to be able to manage the number of people at the centre at a given time.

School tours & vists

Schools are welcome; we provide an educational talk in our centre with a presentation and educational material provided. Children are then taken around all the habitats and introduced to their inhabitants and learn more about each raptor’s individual needs and challenges. The visit is personalised to the age and development of the children or adults present, so that maximum benefit and pleasure is experienced.
- Minimum 20 children per group and 1 teacher per 10 children. Maximum 50 – 60 people per group.
- Bookings essential

Corporation and Adult visits

VulPro also hosts very successful corporate and team building events, where visitors assist in the ongoing development and projects that VulPro undertakes. Corporations and their members benefit from having a healthy social responsibility as well as having an amazing day out in a beautiful part of South Africa. Visitors are also treated to a personalised talk and presentation at the educational centre and are taken around all the habitats to visit the resident raptors.

Lapa available for braais, picnics & functions

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic lunches and enjoy them in the cool shade of our lapa, braai facilities are available. Relax and enjoy a wonderful day, with the sound of a fish eagle calling and vultures circling overhead. Africa at its best!
