Progress Reports
Ongoing teacher-parent contact and communication is a central part of the RENS experience.
RENS provides comprehensive written reports on your child’s developmental progress three times a year at the end of
terms 1, 2 and 4. At the end of term 3, you can make an appointment with the teacher for a personal discussion on your child’s progress.

Screening & Assessments
Vision, hearing and dental screenings take place annually at the school with parents’ permission. Early detection of problems is essential to reduce the negative impact on the child.
Developmental assessments and school readiness testing is arranged through the school.

The RENS Library
Introducing children to books in preschool supports school readiness and literacy, enhances critical thinking skills and promotes creative and social development. RENS is fortunate to have a well-stocked library and your child will be able to borrow a book every week during library time.

Extramural Activities
We offer a range of optional extramural programmes which take place during school hours at an additional cost. Activities available are carefully chosen to enhance physical development and creativity.

The RENS Community

Roosevelt Extension Nursery School (RENS) was purpose-built in 1964 to serve the needs of the community.

The school is a Public Benefit Organisation, managed by a Governing Body to provide quality preschool education for 2 to 6 year olds. The support and involvement of parents and the
community at large is a key pillar of our school.

RENS is proud that its student body mirrors the diversity of our neighbourhood and country. We believe that school should be an
extension of the home. Our children should feel safe and treasured while in the care of our qualified and experienced educators.

We don’t have formal open days – at RENS, every day is open day. We have an open-door policy and welcome parents to visit and appreciate the school in action, first-hand.

RENS respects all religions, and welcomes children from all cultural backgrounds. Dietary requirements are accommodated.

Highlights on the RENS calendar

Mini Walk Our annual walk takes advantage of our proximity to Emmarentia Botanical Gardens, culminating in a celebratory get-together at the school. An event for the whole family!
Pyjamarama A firm favourite for kids and parents alike! One Friday a year, kids are dropped off at school in their PJs with a picnic supper and a torch for an evening of fun and adventure in the care of their teachers.
Dads & Kids Campout Takes place every other year, the campout is a wonderful opportunity for dads to bond with their kids and get to know the other dads at the school.
Annual Concert We prepare the children in a stress-free, fun way to stage an event that is appropriately representative of the pre-school child.

My children are thriving at RENS. They are both very happy there (which is most important), but they are also physically strong, emotionally resilient, and intellectually challenged. The school has excellent teachers and wonderful facilities. The spacious, well equipped garden especially deserves a mention.

The school manages to strike the perfect balance between free play, and more structured fun learning activities.

My daughter is nearing the completion of her Grade R year at RENS. I believe the small classes, the personal attention, and the school's approach to learning have contributed to her being completely ready and confident to face the challenges that Big School will pose.
