National Children's Theatre

National Children’s Theatre is the foremost theatre organization in Gauteng, shining the bright light of educational, engaging and award-winning theatre for children and youth throughout South African cities and rural areas, to rapturous reviews from children, parents and the media.

We present live theatre year-round at our renowned 4.5-acre campus in Johannesburg, which includes two indoor theatres, one outdoor theatre, a puppet theater, music room, and classrooms for the weekend workshop academy.

NCT: Enchanting. Inspiring. Empowering.

Reaching more children through the arts

NCT is incomparable in Gauteng, and in many parts of South Africa, not only for its breadth of services and for reaching many children who otherwise would not ever see live performance.

We’ve had a vital impact on Gauteng’s children (and their families) since COVID-19 as the only theatre presenting children’s plays during this time. We’ve also welcomed more than 1000 children from home and orphanages.

National Children's A Year with Frog and Toad

NCT has brought back A Year with Frog and Toad, a popular show which was cut short two years ago due to Covid. In the show it’s Spring. Frog and Toad awake from their hibernation with plans to renew their friendship – starting with a swim. But Toad is very anxious about being seen in a bathing suit.

Will they manage to have as much fun as they used to? The show is an enchanting musical journey through the seasons with a cheerful array of animal characters: Frog, Toad, Snail, Birds, Squirrels and more. The story and lyrics are based on books by Arnold Lobel, in an award-winning adaptation which was performed on Broadway.

NCT’s production, directed by Ivor Jones, with set and costumes by Sarah Roberts and a dynamic young cast, is a joyful song and dance romp suitable for children from 3 and up. Themes: Friendship and how real friends support and take care of each other, yet give each other space to be themselves.
