Welcome to Hopscotch Preschool. My name is Melanie Poultney and I have been in the childcare field for 28 years. I have owned and run a very successful playschool called Peter Rabbit Playschool in Port Elizabeth for the past 16 years. I am very involved with the children in my care, I prefer one on one interaction and a small, cosy, calm, environment where each child is free to express his/her talents and wants. We do stick to a morning schedule and follow our themes, which include storytelling, reading, music and dance, arts & crafts, learning our numbers, counting, colour recognition, days of the week, months of the year, learning our letters and sensory bin adventures, oh and quite a bit of painting and messy stuff, however, sometimes the children just want to play and that’s OK too.

Nutritious Meals Provided

Hopscotch Preschool’s hours are from 7:30am – 1:30pm which is half day and 7:30am – 5:00pm which is full day. We offer breakfast, snacks and a healthy mid-day lunch. It is very important that children are collected on time each day. If your child seems unwell, please do not bring him/her to school.

Hopscotch Preschool has a ‘Parent WhatsApp Group’ for parents only. Now and again I will need to send group messages and I also like to capture sweet moments of your child during the morning and would like to send the photo to the group…if you would prefer your child not to be photographed, please let me know, or, if you would prefer the photo to go to your personal number, let me know.

Holiday Care

School fees are to be paid before the first day of the new month, please note that your child will not be allowed to attend the preschool if school fees are not paid on time. Please note that Hopscotch Preschool is open during the holidays except December holidays.

Please make sure I have been informed of a change in routine at pick up as we will not send your child home with someone we don’t know. Please make every effort to remember to inform me.

Fees include Stationery

Please include the following in your child’s bag: wet wipes and nappies if not potty trained yet, a couple of water/juice/milk bottles for your child to drink during the day. A change of clothes. Sunscreen Lotion for Summer months and a warm blanket for naptime during the Winter months. We will apply the sunscreen lotion.

Please note that all stationery, food, art supplies are provided by the preschool. If your child is attached to a soft toy and you feel your child will benefit from having the ‘attachment buddy’ with your child during the day, please allow your child to bring it to school.

I am passionate about child care and enriching little minds and hearts, I thoroughly enjoy young children’s humour and joyfulness. I find it an absolute blessing that I have been, and continue to be, involved in foundation education and development.
