Eastgate Shopping Centre
Eastgate Shopping Centre has evolved into a prominent retail centre and retains its dominance and world-class reputation as a super-regional shopping centre in the eastern suburbs of Johannesburg, with a diverse tenant offering. Since its opening over forty years ago in 1979, Eastgate has significantly grown in size and stature and has undergone a number of evolutionary upgrades to meet the ever-changing needs of customers and surrounding communities.
IndyKart go-karting
South Africa’s biggest indoor go-kart track recently opened at the centre and will be open throughout festive season. The new IndyKart track offers 475 metres of exhilarating track to zoom around, and no less than thirteen corners of various technical levels in fourteen brand-new Sodi RT8 Karts. The track is open to children from the age of nine years old or those with a minimum height of 1,4 metres.
Be Present for the Fun at Eastgate Shopping Centre

Eastgate Shopping Centre invites visitors to immerse themselves in the festive spirit with a vibrant holiday experience aptly themed “Be Present for the Fun.” From 1 to 24 December, the centre will transform into a festive wonderland, offering endless entertainment and memorable activities for families, ensuring there’s magic around every corner.
- 12-16 Dec, Ackermans Character Shop: Explore the Ackermans Character Shop in the Strelitzia Court, a delightful space packed with fun experiences. Young visitors will be able to enjoy activities from Barbie, Spiderman, Batman and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
-17-23 Dec, Cartoonito: Cartoonito will bring the festive spirit alive with the Batwheels activation, where shoppers can enjoy remote-control car racing, arts and crafts activities, and appearances from their favourite Cartoonito characters. Set to be stationed outside Krispy Kreme and Edgars, visitors can scan a QR code and donate R50 or more to Reach for a Dream, helping make dreams come true for children with life threatening conditions.
-16-22 Dec, Christmas Parade: Eastgate will come to life with a daily Christmas Parade. Featuring a marching band, ballerinas, dancers and aerial acts, the parade will take place at 4pm and 6pm each day. This delightful mobile spectacle will move through the centre, culminating in an extraordinary aerial performance on the outdoor piazza. While the parade can be seen from my many places in the mall, great spots to enjoy a meal while taking in the grand finale each day are restaurants such as Piatto, Mozambik, Simply Asia, La Parada, and Pizza Hut.
-2-20 Dec, "Letters to Santa": Children who are eager to share their holiday wishes can now send their requests directly to the north pole in the special “Letters to Santa” post box that will be stationed next to the Disney Tree outside Krispy Kreme on the upper level.
Santa himself will be arriving for photos from 6 to 24 December on the lower level near Edgars, giving families the opportunity to capture special memories.
