Childline Gauteng continues to work toward achieving this vision and looks forward to our 35th year of service, with great appreciation to our partners and funders for your support, enabling us to grow into a formidable champion for children and families.

Childline Gauteng serves children, families and communities in an integrated manner focusing on prevention and early intervention to ensure their safety and promote development through professional services. We aim to build resilience in adults to meet children’s emotional, physical, mental and spiritual needs, thereby promoting psychologically stable individuals able to make a positive contribution to their communities.

Childline Gauteng offers the following core services:
•24 Hour Help Line - a toll-free telephone service offering counselling and support services to 250000 callers, mainly children families and community members dealing with all issues including the facilitation of child protection services
•Sunlight Safe House - provides a nighttime place of safety for over 120 children whose home circumstances are not conducive to their safety and wellbeing and long-term foster care for 76 children in volunteer community homes and 29 youth in the Independent Living programme
•Counselling and Support Services in our Childline Community Based Centres (CCBCs) in the Inner City, Soweto, Sebokeng, Orange Farm, Katorus, Diepsloot, Tembisa and Tshwane 1 – our social workers provide 9 000 counselling and support services to 2 000 abused and traumatised children and in so doing, strengthen the child protection system. Each CCBC will host a life skills group for 20 boys to facilitate positive masculinity, Ringa Majita (Let’s talk gents)
•Community Awareness and Prevention Programme (CAPP) - Empowers 80 000 children and adults, thereby preventing child abuse and ensuring early intervention in cases of child abuse and neglect
•Community Development – working with the local Child Protection Committees led by DSD we reach approximately 20 000 community members with events focusing on child and substance abuse, child safety, poverty alleviation and access to IDs and SASSA, TB, health issues and HIV/Aids prevention and treatments, gender-based violence, trafficking, human rights and appropriate community responses to ensure child development
•Child Development Leadership Programme - each CCBC implements “LEADers” - a junior Leadership programme for 100 young people in schools for one year. The overall aim is to develop confident, positive role models who implement a project to enhance their school community
•Training and Development – for employees, youth, volunteers, professionals and community members working in the field of child protection and children’s rights, reaching 1 000 trainees. We have training modules (some with CPD points and some recorded for online training) for: Gender-Based Violence, Child Abuse and Disclosure, Children with Behaviour Disorders; Childhood Depression; Grief and Loss; Positive Parenting; Positive Discipline; Basic and Advanced Counselling Skills, Play Therapy; Early Childhood Development; Foster and Temporary Safe Care
•Special Projects - HIV prevention project in Tshwane Region 1 - deliver psycho-social services aimed at preventing and treating HIV in adolescent girls and young women - to be confirmed; Psycho-social services for 1000 youth in five Telkom Foundation supported schools
•ECD Practitioner Training – child development, safety and developmental play – training in collaboration with A Chance to Play (ACTP) in the seven communities that Childline serves
•Youth Development – training volunteers and graduates in psycho-social skills to promote youth employment in the children’s sector.
