We offer Fun drama classes with many, many benefits, such as confidence boost, enhanced creativity, improved memory, improved social skills, improved public speaking and communication, and many more.
The ADK was founded in 1939, and has had many successful years of teaching and introducing, actors, actresses, directors, writers, etc into the entertainment industry. We have had many local South African talent study through the ADK, and many of them are still active within the ADK. Amongst these are Henry Mylne, David Rees, Marius Weyers, to name but a few.
We teach drama classes in both English and Afrikaans, and have small classes so that your children get individual attention and instruction. This means that we can fine-tune their acting and speech skills, rather than just teaching general drama skills in a big group setting.
Ages: Gr0-3, Gr4-7, High school 3 year course. Adult 3 year certificate course (NQF level 4). Exams offered from grade 4 upwards.
The Academy of Dramatic Art offers a three year, part-time drama course (Senior ADK–certificate) for students and adults, as well as a three year, part-time drama course (Junior ADK-certificate) for high school students. The course is a practical drama course. The course aims to develop basic drama skills that will form the basis of stage-, radio-, film-, television and all other forms of public performances. The senior Course also covers theatre directing.
Instruction includes a one hour drama lesson per week, as well as group classes once a week which mostly consists of rehearsals for productions when available. Classes take place during the public school and university terms.
In this course students get the opportunity to create their own shortfilms. From writing, to filming. The course covers a wide range of film theory, as well as practical elements. It takes place one Saturday a month over a period of 10 months, and includes the following:
• Basic acting for camera skills
• Creating ideas that work for film

• Storyboarding
• Set and prop design
• Casting
• Basic lighting techniques
• Planning a shoot day

• Creating a stop-motion film
Aim and end result:
By the end of the year, each student will have written, directed, and filmed their very own short-film. (ranging between 3-5 minutes), which will then be professionally edited and shown at a special ‘ red carpet film-premiere’ where students will get to dress up in their fanciest red-carpet outfits, and be the stars of the evening.
