{"id":895,"date":"2009-11-30T13:44:51","date_gmt":"2009-11-30T11:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/zaparents-blog\/?p=895"},"modified":"2022-06-22T11:01:50","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T09:01:50","slug":"gourmet-kidz-christmas-treats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/lifestyle\/food-recipes\/gourmet-kidz-christmas-treats\/","title":{"rendered":"Gourmet kids Xmas recipes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Stained Glass Christmas Cookies<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Makes 36<\/p>\n<h3>Ingredients<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">250g butter, softened<br \/>\n2 tsp lemon rind<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp almond essence<br \/>\n165g caster sugar<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\n1 tbsp water<br \/>\n335g cake flour<br \/>\n100g clear boiled sweets or lollies, crushed<\/p>\n<h3>Method<\/h3>\n<p>Beat butter, rind, essence, sugar, egg and water until smooth.<br \/>\nSift in the flour and knead until smooth.<br \/>\nWrap in glad wrap and chill for 30minutes.<br \/>\nPre-heat an oven to 170 degrees<br \/>\nOn a floured surface roll dough to 4mm thick.<br \/>\nUsing cookie cutters of your choice cut out shapes and<br \/>\nplace on baking trays lined with paper.<br \/>\nUsing a tiny cookie cutter or the handle of a wooden spoon make holes in the centre of each cookie.<br \/>\nBake the cookies for 5minutes, remove from oven and fill centre with the crushed sweets, return to oven for further 5minutes, Cool on a tray.<\/p>\n<p>To hang on a tree simply make another small hole near the edge of the cookie before baking, when cool thread ribbon for tying onto the tree. Alternatively wrap in organza and ribbon for gifts.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Chocolate Truffles<\/h2>\n<p>Makes about 50<\/p>\n<h3>Ingredients<\/h3>\n<p>400ml cream<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-904 size-full\" title=\"resizebelgian_chocolate_truffles-41\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/resizebelgian_chocolate_truffles-41.jpg\" alt=\"resizebelgian_chocolate_truffles-41\" width=\"300\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/resizebelgian_chocolate_truffles-41.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/resizebelgian_chocolate_truffles-41-298x300-1.jpg 298w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/resizebelgian_chocolate_truffles-41-150x150-1.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n800g milk or dark chocolate, chopped into small pieces<br \/>\nCocoa and icing sugar for dusting<\/p>\n<h3>Method<\/h3>\n<p>Heat the cream to almost boiling point and remove from heat.<br \/>\nImmediately add the chocolate and sir occasionally until smooth.<br \/>\nPlace into a tray and cool until set.<br \/>\nWith a spoon scoop walnut size pieces and<br \/>\nform balls by rolling between your palms (the children will love this).<br \/>\nRoll each ball in either the cocoa or icing sugar, chill for 30minutes.<br \/>\nThese make great gifts for family and friends in pretty little boxes or<br \/>\nare great for treats.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Christmas Ice Cream<\/h2>\n<h3>Ingredients<\/h3>\n<p>12 mince pies<br \/>\n2litres good quality Vanilla ice cream<\/p>\n<h3>Method<\/h3>\n<p>Fill a clean clear food plastic bag with the mince pies and get the kids to smash them into little pieces.<br \/>\nIn a large bowl place the ice cream and mix in the smashed minced pies.<br \/>\nEither place the mix back into the ice cream tub and freeze until served or to create individual puddings place in ramekins lined with glad wrap.
