Allowing our children the opportunity to express creativity in the kitchen has invaluable benefits for fine motor and sensory development.<\/p>\n<p>Fine motor skills are needed in everyday life. Cooking provides many exercises to help develop these skills. For example strengthening of the wrist by slicing, pouring, whisking, squeezing, Tripod fingers which are required for holding a pen correctly by pinching, slicing and sprinkling<\/p>\n<p>This family recipe makes for a visually appealing, fun and rewarding fine motor and sensory activity.<\/p>\n<h2>Tools<\/h2>\n<p>Whisk (wrist movement)<br \/>\nCup (pouring action)<br \/>\nSpoon (scooping)<br \/>\nButter knife (cutting and tripod fingers)<br \/>\nPotato peeler (wrist action) supervision and assistance by an adult is required .<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<p>1 egg per person\u00a0(breaking eggs good for bilateral integration as two hands are required)<br \/>\n1 tsp. sour cream per egg\u00a0 (adds a light fluffy consistency to omelet)<br \/>\nSalt and pepper to taste\u00a0(pinching the seasoning and sprinkling as an exercise for tripod fingers)<br \/>\nMushrooms\u00a0(slicing, texture)<br \/>\nBasil pesto or dried herbs\u00a0(sprinkling or squeezing)<br \/>\nCheese\u00a0(slicing)<br \/>\nTomato sauce\u00a0(squeezing, colour)<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-249364\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/75369_640x428.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/75369_640x428.jpg 642w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/75369_640x428-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Method<\/h2>\n<p>Crack egg into cup and whisk.<br \/>\nAdd sour cream and seasoning<br \/>\nPour into non-stick pan and cook over medium heat. (<strong>Adults only<\/strong>)<br \/>\nSlice mushrooms<br \/>\nSlice cheese<\/p>\n<p>Place the pan with the handle sticking out under the grill to cook the top of the omelet. Trying to flip it will result in breaking, as the mixture is very soft and fluffy.
