I have always\u00a0 surrounded my kids with books and\u00a0read to them as much as possible.\u00a0Most of these books I find\u00a0 in libraries,\u00a0at the homes of\u00a0friends,\u00a0 at bookstores,\u00a0 school\u00a0fetes, you name it, \u00a0wherever they can be found.\u00a0 When relatives ask me\u00a0what they can\u00a0buy my kids as gifts,\u00a0 my first choice is always books.<\/p>\n
Today it gives me huge pleasure\u00a0\u00a0to watch them escape into this world of the imagination, of stories.\u00a0 As I write this my son is lying in bed starting the\u00a0third book in a\u00a0fantastic series for older kids ( from11yrs) by Rick Riordan about a character called Percy Jackson set against the background of Greek Mythology. He is captivated, can’t stop and could easily read for hours. Luckily its Saturday,\u00a0 so the chances are good.<\/p>\n
I want to share some of our best reads with you and invite you to do the same.\u00a0 Lets create a wonderful list , one we can all use to instill a love of reading in our children.<\/p>\n
The books Marvin could not put down:<\/p>\n
–\u00a0\u00a0The Lion boy trilogy by Zizou Corder ( incredible, for parents too)
\n–\u00a0\u00a0Eva Ibbotson’s books, especially The Dragonfly Pool.
\n– Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan<\/p>\n
-The Diary of Wimpy Kids series
\n– Roald Dahl kids stories
\n– Sally Gardner’s Magical kids series ( fabulous!)<\/p>\n
– So Much! by Trish Cooke and Helen Oxenbury\u00a0 ( one of my all time favourites – written like a rap song)
\n–\u00a0Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
\n– The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. ( all his books are great)
\n– Ezra Jack Keats\u00a0: \u00a0A letter to Amy or Whistle for Willie<\/p>\n
I could go on and on but maybe this is enough to start with. I will add to this list as I\u00a0 remember.\u00a0 Please help us grow it.<\/p>\n
