{"id":5877,"date":"2013-01-21T21:38:03","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T19:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/responsive.jozikids.co.za\/zaparents\/?p=5877"},"modified":"2022-08-11T17:29:32","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T15:29:32","slug":"diy-kids-make-a-dreamcatcher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/activities-and-outings\/diy-activities\/diy-kids-make-a-dreamcatcher\/","title":{"rendered":"Make a Dreamcatcher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s craft is a dreamcatcher, a beautiful and magical item that is supposed to &#8220;catch&#8221; nightmares as a spiderweb traps flies. \u00a0Are your kids experiencing any anxiety in this time of transition after the holidays and the stress of &#8220;back to school&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>We made a dreamcatcher this week because my young son was complaining about bad dreams. \u00a0I hope it helps him, and maybe it will help you and your\u00a0child, too!<\/p>\n<p>Our dreamcatcher uses items you can often find at a thrift store or hospice shop. \u00a0It&#8217;s an easy make for children 3 and up. \u00a0We&#8217;re showing you the basic version. \u00a0You could add beads, feathers, or even small toys to help decorate it and make it more meaningful.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">What You&#8217;ll Need<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">an embroidery hoop (thrift, or from a haberdashery store, such as at the Oriental Plaza or the Fashion District)<\/li>\n<li>a stitched (not paper) doily, smaller than the hoop (thrift store)<\/li>\n<li>ribbons, one color or many colors<\/li>\n<li>(optional): beads, feathers, small toys or meaningful objects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Step 1<\/h2>\n<p>Center your doily in the embroidery hoop.<\/p>\n<p>With your child, choose the colors of the ribbons. \u00a0If the kids are old enough, let them help with cutting the ribbons.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2<\/h2>\n<p>Tie one ribbon from a corner or point of the doily to the hoop, loosely.
