{"id":5325,"date":"2012-10-07T06:57:15","date_gmt":"2012-10-07T04:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/zaparents-blog\/?p=5325"},"modified":"2021-11-15T07:54:39","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T05:54:39","slug":"teach-your-kids-to-drink-loads-of-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/lifestyle\/food-nutrition\/teach-your-kids-to-drink-loads-of-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Teach your kids to drink loads of water!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">On Thursday evening I was quietly folding laundry and watching Hawaii 5 O, and minding my own business, when I suddenly felt an excruciating pain in my right side, accompanied by waves of nausea.<\/p>\n<p>I threw up every bit of the awesome dinner my kids had made, much to my daughter\u2019s disgust, but the pain just kept intensifying, and I kept telling Gav that I was dying and I got most annoyed with him when he had the cheek to say that I wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually I had to admit defeat and gingerly walked (crawled) down the stairs and agreed to let Gav take me to the Linksfield Clinic.\u00a0 I was crying like a baby by this time and Gav had to stop twice for me to be sick.\u00a0 Shame, poor people whose houses I threw up outside\u2026nasty surprise for them in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>The doc took one look at me and said he thought it was a kidney stone, so he gave me a cocktail of painkilling drugs through an intravenous drip and off I went for a CAT scan.\u00a0 The cocktail didn\u2019t do much for the pain and the CAT scan and abdominal x-ray were a bit of a blur as I concentrated hard on not dying or throwing up all over that expensive machine!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_249282\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-249282\" style=\"width: 896px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-249282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Getting-kids-to-drink-more-water.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"896\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Getting-kids-to-drink-more-water.jpg 896w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Getting-kids-to-drink-more-water-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Getting-kids-to-drink-more-water-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 896px) 100vw, 896px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-249282\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: intermountainhealthcare.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once the stone had been confirmed, the doc said they were going to admit me and hopefully I would pass the stone naturally, as it was quite low down.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to stay but he asked me whether I was able to manage the pain at home, and I decided to take the pethadine injection and be admitted like a good little girl.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the pethadine had me flying 1<sup>st<\/sup> class around the world, with no pain for a few hours.\u00a0 Although I was sieving my urine (don\u2019t even ask!!!), I didn\u2019t see the stone pass, but miraculously at about 3 am the pain disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>I saw the doc in the morning\u2026 gorgeous, young, thin, brainy (do u want to see someone like that when u look like hell after not closing your eyes once the entire night, and having no make up or even a brush with u!)\u00a0 Anyway, she said she would send me to have another x-ray and if the stone had passed I could go home.
