The holidays often lead to significant environmental impact.<\/p>\n<h3>Are you eco-conscious? Some hard truths<\/h3>\n<p>Did you know?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Globally, about one-third of all food produced is wasted, and this increases during festive seasons.<\/li>\n<li>Wrapping paper, often single-use and non-recyclable, contributes significantly to holiday waste (seriously, glitter paper is basically the villain of recycling!)<\/li>\n<li>Decorations and gifts, while beautiful, often come with a hidden environmental cost due to packaging and production processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Here\u2019s how you can have eco-conscious celebration<\/h3>\n<p>Simple ways to celebrate sustainably<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gift thoughtfully:<\/strong>\u00a0Opt for experiences (like\u00a0e-tickets to a concert), handmade gifts, or homemade goodies (think cookies, not glitter bombs!) or donations to causes that align with your loved ones&#8217; values. Bonus: they don\u2019t come wrapped in three layers of plastic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wrap it right:<\/strong>\u00a0Wrapping doesn\u2019t have to come with trees in distress. Use scarves, reusable bags, or even last year\u2019s map of the subway (it\u2019s the thought that counts) to wrap gifts creatively. Did you know that the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unicef.sharepoint.com\/sites\/DFAM-EEIU\/SitePages\/Holidays%202020-Webinar%20(Furoshiki%20%26%20Origami).aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J<\/a>apanese art called Furoshiki and Origami\u00a0are great alternatives?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Embrace leftovers as heroes, not villains:<\/strong>\u00a0Too much food? Plan meals mindfully: Prepare just enough food to avoid waste. Share with a neighbor or local shelters, freeze it for later, or host a \u201cleftover potluck.\u201d Waste not, want not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Decorate with love, not landfill:<\/strong>\u00a0Bring out the classic, reusable decorations\u2014or get creative with nature. Pinecones? Twigs? They\u2019re basically free d\u00e9cor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spread awareness:<\/strong>\u00a0We\u2019re sure your creative gift wrapping will be a great conversation piece -start conversations with friends and family about small changes everyone can make to reduce their holiday footprint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want more inspiration?
