You will find:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#M1\">GDE applications- important dates to remember<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#M2\">the 5 step application process<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#M3\">Communication<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#M4\">Documents required<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#M5\">Placement Criteria<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#M6\">Decentralised walk-in centres<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#M7\">Alternate Schools<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"M1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Save the Date for 2026 GDE Applications!<\/h2>\n<p>The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced the 2026 Online Admissions for Grade 1 and 8 Application Period. Save the dates, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gdeadmissions.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bookmark the website<\/a> and play your part, they say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OPEN: Thursday 24 July, 8am<\/li>\n<li>CLOSE: Friday 29 August, 12am<\/li>\n<li>Special Schools applications: directly at school\u00a0 from 11 March\u00a0 to 15 April 2025<\/li>\n<li>Boarding Schools applications: First confirm placement at boarding house, then APPLY ONLINE, as usual.<\/li>\n<li>PLACEMENT: SMSes with Placement Offers will be sent to parents from 16 October 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It seems pretty simple. All you have to do is visit the website anytime during the application period stated above. Once logged in, follow the prompts for the 5 step application process.<\/p>\n<p>NB: Placement will be based on Placement criteria and availability of spaces in line with school capacity!<br \/>\n<a name=\"M2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>5 Step GDE Application Process<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>STEP 1: Register Parent\/Guardian Details<\/li>\n<li>STEP 2: Register Home Address Details<\/li>\n<li>STEP 3: Register Learner Details<\/li>\n<li>STEP 4: Apply to a Minimum of 3 and Maximum of 5 Schools<\/li>\n<li>STEP 5: Uploading Documents to System or Submitting Documents at Schools (Within 7 school Days of Applying)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NOTE:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants MUST ensure that they complete the full 5 Step application process<\/li>\n<li>Applicants who have Registered their details without Applying to any school, will not be considered for placement<\/li>\n<li>Accordingly, there will be weekly pop-up messages on the System and SMS notifications sent to registered applicants as reminders to complete their application<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must ensure that they respond to the SMS when required to do so. If not sure, they can visit the offices of the department for clarity<\/li>\n<li>Parents are encouraged to use home address within school feeder zone application option to see schools with feeder zones that cover the parent\u2019s home address<\/li>\n<li>To increase the chances of placement closer to the parent\u2019s home address, parents should select schools with feeder zones that cover the parent\u2019s home address.<\/li>\n<li>Parents are encouraged to apply to a minimum of 3 schools and a maximum of 5 schools for each learner.<\/li>\n<li>Parents cannot make more than one application for one learner to the same school.<\/li>\n<li>Parents must remember to read and accept the Terms and Conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"M3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>GDE Application Communication<\/h3>\n<p>All correspondence will be sent via SMS. Remember to provide the correct cellphone number when registering your child! Schools will remain available during the application process &#8211; no school will disappear off the system.<br \/>\n<a name=\"M4\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Documents Required for Grade 1 and 8 GDE applications<\/h3>\n<p>All required documents must be either:<\/p>\n<p>1. Uploaded online on the Online Admissions System<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>2. Submitted physically at the school(s) selected during application, and such parents will receive a receipt to acknowledge submission of documents.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Parent and Child ID or Passport<\/li>\n<li>Refugee Permit<\/li>\n<li>Asylum Seeker Permit<\/li>\n<li>Permanent Residence Permit<\/li>\n<li>Study Permit<\/li>\n<li>Your South African Birth Certificate<\/li>\n<li>Proof of Home Address &#8211; MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT<\/li>\n<li>Proof of Work Address<\/li>\n<li>Latest Grade 7 School Report (Grade 8 applicants only)<\/li>\n<li>Clinic Card\/Immunisation Report (Grade 1 applicants only)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>NB! There are various terms and conditions regarding these documents. Please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gdeadmissions.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visit the site <\/a>for more information.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Important Notes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants will be required to specify their language preference, i.e. for learning and teaching. All 11 languages will be considered.
