{"id":2569,"date":"2010-11-01T23:02:54","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T21:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/zaparents-blog\/?p=2569"},"modified":"2022-06-21T12:08:36","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T10:08:36","slug":"the-lighter-side-of-potty-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/baby-to-teens\/toddler-potty-training\/the-lighter-side-of-potty-training\/","title":{"rendered":"The lighter side of potty training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People will ask me, \u201cSo how is the potty training going?\u201d \u00a0My response is normally a blank stare followed by an intelligent, \u201cUh?\u201d as I have always felt that going to the toilet was just another milestone my girls would reach at some stage, when <strong>they <\/strong>were ready.<\/p>\n<p>I did think that perhaps they were ready one month when they suddenly refused to wear nappies. and I promptly \u00a0rushed out to buy a potty.<\/p>\n<p>While out shopping I \u00a0wondered whether\u00a0 to buy one or two potties. (My twins had been going through the stage where they wanted identical things)., I settled on ONE yellow potty, knowing I could always go back to the shop if I needed another.<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised to find that they were willing to SHARE this new addition to the house. There were squeals of delight at seeing the potty but after an hour everyone from Barney to the doll had gone to the \u2018toilet\u2019 except for the girls. Sadly potty was relegated to a dark corner, like so many of their toys they get bored with.<\/p>\n<p>Then began the new term at cr\u00e8che\u2026&#8230; \u201cFrom now on you will need to send pull up pants to school,\u201d I was informed by the teacher. \u201cWe will have them potty trained in no time\u201d I smiled at her optimism. \u00a0A month later, I broached the subject,\u201d So how is the potty training going?\u201d Her silence spoke volumes as she tried to tell me nicely that it wasn\u2019t going well, ending with,\u201d But we are getting there.\u201d Then at the end of term during the parent teacher meeting, we decided to give potty training a break for the winter and to try again the following summer.<\/p>\n<p>This term I have decided to take the \u2018toilet\u2019 matter a little more seriously and bought a second potty. The girls now feel more inclined to \u2018use\u2019 the potties as they both have their own.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-353105 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1200-X-500_Potty.jpg\" alt=\"potty training with teddy bear\" width=\"1200\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1200-X-500_Potty.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1200-X-500_Potty-300x125.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1200-X-500_Potty-1024x427.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jozikids.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/1200-X-500_Potty-768x320.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Potty training trials happen on the weekends and while the elder of my twins has responded eagerly to the idea of going to \u2018toilet\u2019, it feels as if she only does it for the praise and attention she gets, while my other daughter only seems to go along with it not to be left out.<\/p>\n<p>Both has yet to produce their first work of art.
