The Joburg Zoo has a huge variety of endangered and threatened animals, birds, reptiles and rare species which stretches across 55 hectares under a dense tree canopy and remains the most loved family outing for young and old.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>The Big 5 at the Joburg Zoo<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Visit Joburg Zoo to find<\/span><\/span> lion, leopard, rhino, African elephant and African buffalo up close, knowing that the Zoo is internationally accredited and maintains a high standard of animal welfare and ethical conduct to safeguard the well-being of all its animals in its care.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>The Animals of the Amazon at the Joburg Zoo.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Wander down darkened tunnels in this newly opened exhibition centre to find gigantic yellow anacondas, Amazon tree boa constrictors, Honduras milk snakes, curly-haired tarantulas, green iguanas, moustached emperor tamarin monkeys and poison dart frogs.\u00a0 <\/span>It also has a walk-through aquarium with\u00a0 many red-data species.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the 6th themed section at the zoo. Others include:\u00a0 <\/span>Animals of Africa; <\/span>The Heart of Africa; <\/span>Southern Safari;<\/span>Extreme Environments, which showcases animals living in extreme temperatures; <\/span>the Farm Yard; and <\/span>the Spice Route. There’s something for everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n

The Zoo offers day and night tours that will take you on a special adventure you’ll never forget! Packed with information, these are fun ways to get to know the animals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferry Tour <\/span><\/h3>\n

T<\/strong>his is a 90 minute tour on a ferry which stops at 5 main animal complexes. The tour guide treats three of the many animals with a snack. This tour is a hit with birthday parties! Bring your picnic baskets for lunch on one of our many beautifully manicured lawns.

Behind the Scenes tour <\/span><\/h3>\n

Go where only the staff get to go! This walking tour includes 2 animal night rooms, the kitchen and hospital. You get to see how the zoo runs while getting close to some of our wild animals!<\/span><\/p>\n

Night Tour<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Visit the zoo at night and explore the zoo’s active nightlife.<\/span>
\nThe Joburg Zoo offers 3 types of night tours:<\/span>
\nSunset tour (4pm – 6:30pm)<\/span>
\nMoonlight tour (5:15pm – 8pm)<\/span>
\nNight tour (6:15pm – 9pm)<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> Zoo Snooze<\/span><\/h2>\n

Come rough-it on an overnight campout at Johannesburg Zoo. Get treated to\u00a0 Behind – the- Scenes and Night Tour ending off with a bonfire. Times: Saturday 2:30pm – Sunday 8am. <\/span>Booking is essential.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adopt an Animal<\/span><\/h2>\n

Add a wild new branch to your family tree!\u00a0Adopt your favourite animal through the Adopt an Animal programme. Your symbolic adoption supports the Zoo’s animal welfare, housing & enrichment. Minimum contribution is R300.<\/span><\/p>\n

The program also allows you to gift the adoption to family and friends – a special way to support the Zoo and interact with the animals they are crazy about!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
