We are always hearing about the difficulties experienced in raising and parenting ADHD children (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder\/attention deficit disorder). Now it’s time to look at the many positive character traits ADHD children have which can help them to thrive and succeed.<\/p>\n
Please note that every child is different. They may have the same diagnosis but they all have their own temperaments, characteristic and personalities. The list that follows is a generalisation and does not apply to everyone.<\/p>\n
It’s often extremely difficult to tear our kids away from something they are interested in. When this is a wonderful hobby, a subject they are interested in or learning a new skill, this hyperfocus is a gift and keeps them on track for hours on end.<\/p>\n
Adventurous, curious and hyperactive are also characteristics used to describe ADHD children. When channeled constructively they are fantastic qualities often used to describe entrepreneurs and successful businesspeople. In work and life, these are very positive qualities when used effectively.<\/p>\n
ADHD children can be incredibly resourceful, innovative and inventive. I have watched my one son use his artistic talent to sell his works online, get commissions from others and earn money on the side (this was at 16 years old). This is a good example of how these children can think out of the box and in a lateral way which helps them get ahead.<\/p>\n
And lastly, ADHD children are often incredibly forgiving, good-hearted and gregarious. This helps them in their interaction with others. I am grateful for these qualities when I think back on my early struggles with my eldest son. We had some hard times but over time have become so close and connected. Thank goodness for his forgiving, good-hearted nature!<\/p>\n
Parents of children with this condition often feel desperate and extremely frustrated. In\u00a0 these moments don’t forget the positive qualities!<\/p>\n
Just think of Albert Einstein who only started talking at two yrs old. His teachers constantly saw him as a poor student. Today, he is recognised as having been ADHD. Read Einstein’s own insightful thoughts on the matter:<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody is a genius.
