Sherlock Holmes. An icon of literature, film and even television. Whether you adore the books, the Robert Downey Jr films, or the Benedict Cumberbatch TV show, you can\u2019t dispute that the man\u2019s an absolute classic.<\/p>\n

And now, they\u2019ve made him kid-friendly. Sort of.<\/p>\n

Introducing Sherlock Gnomes<\/em>, the famous detective (in garden gnome form), arriving with his sidekick Watson to investigate a missing gnomes case.\u00a0Granted, these are \u201csillier, kitschier interpretations\u201d, but they’re apparently instantly recognisable.<\/p>\n

Why should you take your kids?<\/h2>\n

  1. The film presents the same gnome characters your kids may have loved in Gnomeo and Juliet<\/em>, tho\u2019 the experts say that this film is superior in every way.<\/li>\n
  2. It\u2019s directed by John Stevenson of Kung Fu Panda<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  3. There\u2019s epic voice talent, including Johnny Depp as Holmes, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Watson, and a stellar supporting cast including James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Mary J Blige, Michael Caine and Maggie Smith.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    What will your little ones learn?<\/h2>\n

    Sherlock Gnomes<\/em> is an enjoyable family adventure, best suited to kids aged 6+.<\/p>\n

    It has a couple of solid messages about teamwork, appreciating others, not taking the people you love for granted, and building healthy romantic relationships in which the individuals are equal partners who encourage each other.<\/p>\n

    There are some educational highlights, too, including historical basics from the classic detective\u00a0stories. Finally, there\u2019s a climactic battle in which there are many close calls, but \u2013 whew! \u2013 all of the heroes are fine in the end.<\/p>\n

    And Sherlock Gnomes<\/em> isn\u2019t too serious: you can anticipate a bit of friendly slapstick via fart jokes, a bare-buttocked gnome wearing a thong, and other gimmicks.<\/p>\n

    Why see it on the big screen?<\/h2>\n

    Like its adult counterparts, Sherlock Gnomes<\/em> is a comedy action adventure set in the streets of London, but it\u2019s 3D<\/a>\u00a0computer-animated \u2013 and again, there are gnomes<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    Says director John Stevenson, \u201cLondon\u2026let us take our heroes out of their familiar garden setting into a city full of hard surfaces, fast moving vehicles and millions of human beings, all things that can easily smash a fragile pottery gnome.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Producer Carolyn Soper agrees, \u201cThe design team has created a modern London that looks so much like the real thing, it makes this whole adventure feel\u2026plausible, as if we might see gnomes running around if we weren\u2019t so involved in our phones.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Expect action and peril, chases, fights, pursuits and close calls. Also, Sir Elton John executive-produced the film and the music is largely his \u2013 and said to be great.<\/p>\n
