Joburg Zoo in association with the City of Johannesburg entities; Joburg Theatre, City Parks and City Power are excited to announce the annual Joburg Zoo Festival of Lights featuring an enchanting collection of illuminated life-size animal characters featuring classical, harmonious entertainment, food and craft market for visitors to the Joburg Zoo.

Patrons can enjoy a tranquil walk in the zoo on a designated lit route away from the animals under trees decorated in enchanting lights.

The Joburg Zoo Festival of Lights will kick off with a classical performance of The Nutcracker by Joburg Ballet at the Bandstand in the zoo. The entertainment will vary on a daily basis, offering a night out in the zoo for all ages. Tell a friend.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo will yet again host the much anticipated Joburg premier Mother’s day concert. The Concert – which has been a highlight on Joburg residents calendar for 27 years aims to honour, embrace and appreciate the role played by mothers. The event will see families paying tribute and celebrating their mothers in the safe and tranquil environment of the zoo.


Concert goers can look forward to live music performances. In addition to enjoying music, visitors can enjoy fun–filled activities to keep them entertained throughout the day, which includes a tour to the majestic and powerful Big 5 animals, feeding session of the chimpanzees and enrichment of our newly launched cute and cuddly tiger cubs. Joburg Zoo will be observing World Elephant Day and aims to showcase high standards of elephant husbandry at the zoo and also highlight the importance of Zoos. Entry will be free for everyone on the day.
