I took my daughters aged almost 2 and 11 on 27 December. We had a wonderful time. It is just the right size- you don't have to walk far, yet you see a lot of animals. My 2 year old doesn't like big places with many people, so she really enjoyed the intimate feeling.
We went to the PTA Zoo the day thereafter and although we had fun, my 11 year old commented that she enjoyed Lori Park more.
What I like about Lori Park, is that it is not in a bad area with parking problems like PTA Zoo, and it doesn't take all day to see animals- we spent 2.5 hours there, including having something to eat at the tea garden, and it was just enough for my 2 year old. Well done, Lori Park- keep up the good work!

Today I took my two boys out to Lory park, not expecting much. But to say its amazing is not touching it! My boys aged 2 and 4 got to feed the owls! We got close up to see tigers, lions, leopard, jaguars and so much more being fed! It was pleasant and such a nice family place I didn't have to worry about my boys not having fun! The R55 was nothing compared to the amazing fun we had! I would definitely love to go back again, this time with more people! Thank you for making this day so special for me and my children. P.S feeding the owls was the best part for all of us!

What a delightful venue! We promised our 3 boys (aged 7, 5, and 3) a trip to the pta zoo, but we weren't really looking forward to the vast distances between cages, so we were thrilled when we heard about Lowry Park. A lovely experience, small and intimate, but we were able to see so much! Ours boys were totally captivated the entire time. The big cats' were awesome, and we got to see them being fed too. Well worth the journey from Witbank. Our family will definitely be visiting you again in the future!

In response to the review below, I do apologize for the first impression that you got of our wonderful facility. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, we do not have a credit machine, we however do offer our visitors the possibility to do an EFT transfer from our office computer. We are in the process of training staff to be more helpful. It is a pity you do not want to visit again, as we have an amazing facility and staff with such passion for what they do. See the other reviews which will confirm this.

A very disappointing first impression. 09/12/2010
We woke up this morning and decide to take a family outing with our 11 month old daughter. After having a browse on Jozi Kids we decided to visit Lory Park Zoo.
We drove all the way from Parkhurst to Midrand only to be told that they have no card facilities to process payment and only accept cash. When I expressed my irritation by saying that it might have been nice if this had been indicated in the info supplied to Jozi Kids the woman at the front desk stared at me blankly. When I repeated myself she said the info was available on Jozi Kids. Feeling unappeased by this response I said it was unacceptable not to inform people as we had now made the trip with an 11 month old only to be turned away, she still stared blankly. When my husband asked where the nearest ATM was we still received no more than a blank stare!
I'm still looking for the little piece of info that reads no credit/debit card facilities on this page.
I might suggest to Lory Park a)that all the necessary info about their facility be provided to sites where they advertise b)that they entrust the fornt desk to an individual who at the very least can provide a courteous welcome and an appropriate response to disappointed visitors.
To the individual at the front desk, we will not be returning to Lory Park we'd rather support the Johannesburg Zoo where staff are friendly and helpful.
I feel sorry for the staff/volunteers beyond the front desk who were so poorly represented, they may very well have provided a far more favourable first impression and an enjoyable experience.

WHAT an amazing experience!
Even tho the yard where I stable my horses and teach, Glen Austin Stables is just up the road from Lory Park Zoo, I'd never been, so my boyfriend and I took advantage of the public holiday to go. I will DEFINITELY be going again!
It was easy to find, well signposted; and inexpensive to get in (only R40, R30 for children under 12). The cages, tho smallish, are incredibly well kept and the animals all look happy! We hadn't been there very long when one of the keepers popped into the badger cage near where we were standing, put a dog harness aroudn the badger and let the badget take her for a big walk, stopping to chat and make friends with people (starting with us!)
Deciding to get something to eat, we went past the kids play area that was swarming with particularly friendly cockatoos that demanded to have their head scratched before moving on - the keepers there were also incredibly friendly, informative and helpful.
The absolute highlight of my day was spending time in the puma cage, playing with and petting 9 month old pumas for 10 minutes, for a R30 petting ticket. WELL worth the money - I can't wait to go again!

A small and personal private zoo, tucked away at the back of Midrand. A wide variety of birds, wild cats and much more! A great place to take the kids for a bit of fun in the sun. And when there are baby animals, you get to pet them!

A little bit out of the way, but worth the travel if you are looking for somewhere to take the kids for an afternoon outing.

Wonderful place to spend an afternoon or morning and interact with the animals
