SA National Railway and Steam Museum

SA National Railway and Steam Museum is the perfect place to bring your children to learn about the fascinating history of the South African railways. The museum is temporarily closed. Then there's the Magaliesburg Express, a steam hauled train ride from Johannesburg to the Magaliesberg.

I read the only review on this below and thought it was closed down. Phoned their office and it seems they are running the trains again although they were closed for December.

Please note that the Railway Museum in Randfonteim seems closed for an indefinate period of time. After struggling to get hold of them I finally did, only to hear the sad news that they can't afford to be open due to lack of funding :-( They've had really bad luck with their copper cables being stolen twice, as well as the prices of coal rising. My son was quite disappointed but I hope SANRASM can sort out their difficulties so my son an others can enjoy the steam engines again.
