Bigshoes works in 3 main areas:
Specialist paediatric services
Firstly, we provide specialist paediatric services to orphaned and vulnerable children. These include medical reports for adoption, age assessments, HIV testing and Antiretroviral treatment. We have clinics on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Bigshoes offices in Braamfontein.
Paediatric palliative care
Secondly, we offer paediatric palliative care services at Baragwanath, Charlotte Maxeke and Rahima Moosa Hospitals for children with life-long or life-limiting illnesses. This service is focused on medical and social support for the child and family through all stages of the child's disease.
Courses for care workers and SAP
Thirdly, our training department has monthly courses for Child and Youth Care workers. We also offer the Gauteng SAPS training on the emergency care of abandoned newborns.
Bigshoes' vision is to reduce the suffering of vulnerable children, ensure their health and empower their caregivers.
